Not too much to report here. It was a really crappy day running in all the smoke from the local Utah fires and the imported smoke from all the fires in California. It was so bad too breath and twice as bad to look at before you sucked it in! This was the first time that I have run this Half Mary and I did it with Troy. We used this race as a medium long run under load as we train for the St George Marathon in 57 days. At the starting line it was 70* with a very light smokey breeze.  The half Mary starts at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon at the 5400 ft elevation and ended at the Draper City Park. It was a very gentle downhill run where you could kick up your pace if you could breathe.... It actually was a rather nice course and I will probably do it again, hopefully in better air condition. Troy and I started together and maintained a sub 8 minute mile pace for about 5 miles before the smoke choked us out and trashed our pace and race plan. Troy ended up #44th place/106 overall / 7th in AG / 11, I came in 33rd overall and 2nd/4 in AG, about a minute behind a 60 year old guy. Porter's Half Mary grouped my (M 65-69) AG into a 10 year AG of (M 60 - 69) so I had to run with some younger competition in the smoky gunkey air. Oh well, now it's time to get ready to do the St George Marathon in 57 days.......TYI

I thought you liked to smoke. Judging by your profile pic.

Burt - Have you ever tried to light a sweat drenched wet soggy stogie at the end of a road race, much less find a dry match to fire it up. The only smoking I like to do is "Smoking" all those youngsters to the finish line of any race I enter into...Matter of fact, I love to cross the finish line with my "Victory Cigar" and immediately turn around and greet the runners behind me stating to them that they had been "Geezered". Beat to the finish by this old man!!!! TYI!

Haha! Can't say that I have. Nice job despite the smoke.

Well done, even under those conditions!

Man, great job on a rough day!

I have always wondered if you lit that cigar! Thanks for clearing that up!
