Slick @ Krazy Kurt's 1/2 Mary

Postby Tom Slick on Sat Aug 07, 2010 11:15 am

It was a good day. My stated goal was to place in the top three of my AG and I'll be .... , I did!
I just wanted to put my knee through some race conditions and have a good day. The knee responded like its never been a problem.
I did my regular crowd up to the front of the pack and started on the second row of runners as we lined up across the road.
Krazy Kurt was late as as usual and we didn't get off the starting line till after 7:am. But, oh well if your running one of Krazy Kurts races you have to expect the unexpected to be the norm for the day.
I started my run with a sub 7 pace that rounded out to a 7.02 minute mile for the first mile. I was going to try to hold that pace for the race.
1. 7.02
2. 7.19
3. 7.12
4. 7.13
5. 7.19
6. 7.39
7. 7.11
8. 7.54
9. 7.31
10. 7.31
11. 8.34
12. 7.50
13. 6.50
Total: 1:37:11 (garmin time central)
Kurts Official time: 1:37:05.5, 7.25/M
Good for a 3rd place in 55/59 M.

It seems that the 1st place old guy beat me by about 4 minutes. Maybe he will quit running by this time next year and I'll train a bit better for a 1/2 mary and move up and take 1st next year.

I saw BDZ and heard that MMaid was there. But I didn't see her before I left.

It was a good day to be on this side of the Dirt Nap!!!!!
One of the guys I work with, his son Brian Summers took 2nd place overall and our very own Sasha P. took first overall.
7:30/M - This will be my SGM goal!

Looks like you ran a great race. What happened at mile 11? Congrats on the hardware.

Allie-thanks for the atta boy! Your a tough act to follow, but you motivate the rest of us to do better in this sport no watter what level were at!

Huans-it was a very good day for me, despite Krazy Kurts disorganization! In Kurts defense, after the start just about everything else went off pretty well, except the PoPs were situated in a wierd place, the mile markers were all off. And as glad as I was to see the water stops they were all in different locations from the past. And at the end of the race the chip cutters were really hard working and kept the finishers moving pretty fast into the fruit and pancake lines. And Kurt hired a live rock and roll band that was really good!So overall I'd have to say that I for one will be returning in 2011 for my 14th time to run Krazy Kurts Provo River Trail Half Marathon.

Artichoke-thanks, I felt really good about my performance, but I know that I have a lot of training to accomplish to be ready to accomplish my SGM goals.

Teena Marie-I sure could have used just a smidgion more motivation out there,Maybe next year you can run this race and pace me to faster one.

DoG, Thanks DoG, I will be seeing you in two weeks for the end of the PC marathon.I quite surprised at how well I feel after running this race yesterday. So well we went to Wendover last night and took some of their money home with us!!!!! Ya!

Rhett-I don't know what 11 was all about. I know that we run through some pretty steep canyon and had no garmin contact with the sats. I don't remember having a senior moment there in my race plan, but the numbers are the numbers! Guess I know where I can improve my race next year.

TimP-Thanks, Not too bad for an old fart!

Nice meeting you at the start (as if its hard to miss you). Congrats on the race.

From RAD on Wed, Aug 11, 2010 at 13:55:28 from 67.172.229.125

EXCELLENT! I see that 7:30 goal at SGM in the bag already! Great job on the performance and taking that knee out for a race. Hardware is always a plus!!

Back on top of the game again - that's the way we like it! :)

From Tom Slick on Wed, Aug 11, 2010 at 14:10:21 from 168.179.157.36

Timp-Age is a state of mind. And in my state of mind I don't think that I will ever grow up!!!!

MarkP, Ya I stick out like a sore thumb, don't I? But thats the way it is for me and I don't see any changes in the near future. So how did your race go?

Ms. RAD-I hope the 7:30 goal is in the bag, but I will continue to train and take nothing for granted! You know how those "I Gotchas" just show up out of the blue and spoil your day!!!! You should come up to Park City the weekend after next and run the last half with me and the "DoG".
