The Des News Marathon and 10K was today, July 24, 2012. It was a great morning to run except it was a bit on the warm side and the humidity was a bit high.

I met up with Marcie near the front of the real starting line, the PoP line, which was just a few feet away from the official starting line. As I was crowding my way to the front of the great mass of runners, out of the blue Ms. RAD found me and wished me a good morning and a great race. Marcie was really up-beat and ready to run, so much so it lifted my spirits, enough so I ran this race much better than I had felt like running.

Maybe it's just me but it looked like there were fewer 10K'ers this year than in the past.

The crowds for the parade were out in droves, many had slept on the parking strips over night and were up and moving about cheering for runners as they went by. I had a pretty good race for not having my whole heart into it.

Somebody said go and the hurd was off and headed for the finish line and I was in the mix trying not to get run over by all the younger faster runners in the pack. I was quite surprised that I was passing bunches of runners at the beginning of the race.

I felt pretty good the entire race while I managed to average a 7.5 minute per mile pace. Not my best  but, oh well. I ended up with my unofficial "Garmin" time of 49:18:xx. This was my longest elapsed time for my fifth trip down the Des News 10K course. Of course my best time at this race is 43:34:xx, maybe next year I will set my all time best 10K time?

Anyway, it was a fun day at the Des News 10K to be on this side of the Dirt Nap........You all be careful out there......God Bless........TYI

TimP-This 10K is one of my favorite races, it's always a great time. Wish I could run it a bit faster! Maybe I should get out and do some better training to get this old, fat, tired body down the road! In Utah the 24th of July is a state holiday.
