It was a good day at the Nestle Springville Art City 5K, and there was Joy in Mudville this day! Got up early today and got ready for my 19th run of the 30th Annual running of the Nestle 5k. Troy picked me up at 5:30am and we were off to Springville. It was about 48* degrees and there was a light sprinkle of rain going on at my place. By the time we got to the race the weather had cleared up and it was about 52*. We did all our race prep and then went for a 1 mile warm up run. When we returned for the w/up run it was just about 4 minutes till showtime.  "BANG", it's showtime.... My goal for this race was to Defend my 2018th First Place Age Division win and throw down 8 minute miles. This is a pretty neat but still demanding course. The first 1.5 miles of the course is gradual uphill with a wicked incline hill at 1.5mi. Then the course is virtually down hill to the finish on the rubberized track at the Springville High School track. At the crest of the hill I took a bunch of deep breaths and then started turning over the legs and heading for the finish line. All the while Troy, who beat me to the finish line at the University of Utah Homecoming on October 20, 2018, was just seconds behind me. I told him before the race that if he slowed down or stopped to tie his shoes I would sail on down the road without him.  At the 2 mile mark I quit looking back and poured on the coal till the finish line. When I got over the finish line I looked back and there was Troy following me over the line a mear 6 seconds behind.  My stats are as follows, Race time: 24:51, Race pace: 8:1, Fastest mile: 7:45, AG Division: 1st of 12, Overall: 174 of 1766, not too bad for a 68 year old guy. Troy ended up 7th in his 50 to 54 AG Div. I'm very pleased with this effort and super pleased with the rehab of my left knee. This is my first race of the season headed back to the Huntsville Full Monte where I fully intend on getting my "BQ" ticket punched back to the 2020 /124th running of the Boston. Troy is training hard and I expect he will accomplish his first "BQ" and run it in 2020. Well that's it, thats all the news that's fit to print.......chow-boing !

P.S. The overall winner clocked in with a 14:44, a 4:45 mp.

T-3 Miles: 3.11
